Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, covered the Thames Valley Under 14s win against Morrinsville Under 15s 63 - 0 last weekend and then went straight into the Heartland Competition playoffs.
Unfortunately defending Meads Cup winners Thames Valley couldn’t repeat the win again this season, losing to Wanganui 20 – 15.
Marcus covered the other playoff games in both the Meads Cup and Lochore Cup and then went on to the Premiership and Championship semifinal games.
Bay of Plenty had an amazing game scoring at will to win 64 – 3 over Manawatu while Tasman won yet again 18 – 9 over Auckland to progress to the playoffs.
Brian and Marcus then went on to the Rugby World Cup Quarter Finals with 8 teams now down to 4. The All Blacks had a powerful performance to beat Ireland 46 – 14, while England was too strong for Australia, winning 40 - 16.
England and New Zealand will meet this coming weekend in one semi-final. The other games saw Wales beat a 14 man France side after a red card 19 – 18 and South Africa beat hosts Japan 26 – 3, after leading 5 – 3 at half time.
South Africa and Wales will play off in the other semi-final this weekend.
Marcus finished with a reminder to women to turn up tonight, Monday, if they’d like to join the Women’s Sevens training at Paeroa Domain from 6 pm.
