Brian Gentil spoke to Nick Price about the Waihi Vegetarian Festival coming up on Sunday, November 3rd.
The Waihi Academy on Landlyst Road will be the place to be for a day to remember. Over 40 stall holders from all over the world will be setting up stalls in the grounds to showcase and sell vegetarian food from around the globe.
Nick usually MC’s this outstanding event, however, this year he is bringing a group of students to perform a traditional Chinese Lion Dance for festival goers. Nick who teaches Chinese Mandarin told Brian about the effort required to present an exciting Lion Dance for an audience and explained the difference between that and the Chinese Dragon Dance. Nick said the two dances are often confused.
There’s all sorts of entertainment lined up for the day with a variety of performances from haka to Taiko drummers. An art exhibition will also be happening again this year, alongside the Japanese Ikebana Floral Exhibition.
There are lots of kids activities and arts and crafts for them to interact with. They can also learn how to make vegan cupcakes from 12 - 12.30 with well known Australian vegan cook Sarah Kidd. There are also vegetarian cooking demonstrations happening from 11.15 to 2.30 pm, every 15 minutes. Well behaved dogs on a leash are also welcome along to enjoy a day out.
