There are some big games across New Zealand this weekend, as well as the Rugby World Cup semifinals in Japan.
Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer covered it all with Brian Gentil starting with the Heartland Competition finals with North Otago playing Wanganui for the Meads Cup, and the Lochore Cup final between West Coast and South Canterbury.
Then it was on to the Premiership final between Tasman and Wellington and Bay of Plenty taking on Hawkes Bay in the Championship final.
Marcus and Brian had talked about the All Blacks semi-final in the Rugby World Cup against England on Saturday night. Marcus is a little nervous but still believes the AB’s will get to the final. The other semi is between South Africa and Wales on Sunday.
Marcus also covered the Women’s Farrah Palmer Cup finals. The Premiership final sees Canterbury take on the Auckland Storm in Christchurch while the Otago Spirit has the home advantage against the Hawkes Bay Tuis in the Championship final playing in Dunedin this weekend.
And a quick heads up from Marcus that next Saturday Thames Valley Rugby is hosting the New Zealand Heartland team as they take on New Zealand Marist in their annual test match. This is being played at Boyd Park in Te Aroha, and Thames Valley and Waihi player Brett Ranga is once again part of that team. We’ll talk more about this next week on Tuesday just after 8.15 am.
