Brian Gentil caught up with a rather despondent Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, on Tuesday morning with all the results from the weekend’s games. The Heartland Competition Meads Cup final was played with North Otago beating Wanganui 33 – 19. And the Lochore Cup went the way of South Canterbury against West Coast, 32 – 19.
The Premiership final went the way of Tasman over Wellington 31 – 14, while the Championship final was won by Bay of Plenty over Hawkes Bay 12 – 7.
The Rugby World Cup finalists will play off this coming weekend with England and South Africa taking the spoils this last weekend. England outplayed the All Blacks winning 19 – 7, while South Africa had a hard fought battle with Wales, coming out on top 19 -16, with a penalty just a few minutes before full time.
Marcus also ran through the Farah Palmer Women’s finals where Canterbury made it three years in a row, beating Auckland 30 – 20 in the final, and the Otago Spirit were too strong for Hawkes Bay in a tight game, winning 24 – 20.
