Marcus Howie, the Rugby Development Officer at the Thames Valley RFU, had an update of the New Zealand Heartland team’s game against New Zealand Marist held at Boyd Park in Te Aroha on Saturday, which they lost 29 – 19.
Marcus and Brian Gentil checked out the results over the weekend of the Rugby World Cup, starting with the All Blacks and Wales game playing off for third and fourth.
It was good news for one New Zealand coach, with Steve Hansen’s side winning 40 – 17 over Warren Gatland’s side. It was a great game with several All Blacks signing off alongside Hansen, as well as Warren Gatland after a very successful time with Wales.
The South Africans were just too clinical for England in the RWC final on Saturday night, taking the Webb Ellis Cup 32 – 12 in Yokohama in a well earned final. They’ve now equalled New Zealand having held the cup three times.Marcus then touched on the tournaments coming up.
This Saturday is the Thames Valley Sevens being held at Waihi’s grounds in Kenny St.
Then on November 23 in Whangamata there’s the Provincial Sevens with teams coming from some of the bigger unions to compete alongside our best.
And at the end of November Thames Valley Swampfoxes will be in Tauranga trying to ‘crack the nationals’, as Marcus described it.
