On Monday OceanaGold held a meeting for residents living near the Rex vein which is located very close to the upper Seddon Street CBD, the rugby club and Kenny Street. Brian Gentil attended the meeting and asked Kit about a question regarding the Pit Rim Walkway raised by a resident. They wondered if the walkway could be put back on the track, not on the road?
OceanaGold intends to create a second air vent in Martha Mine. Brian asked whether this would require a Resource Consent?
He also wanted to know how workers in the mine safely navigate the 50 plus kilometres of tunnels beneath Waihi without getting lost?
Exploration at Wharekirauponga is ongoing. Kit explained what has been happening there.
Brian also asked off air about rumoured job cuts. Kit explained that he couldn’t discuss anything at this stage due to ongoing negotiations between workers, OceanaGold and the union. Kit will update us when negotiations are concluded.
