It’s another busy weekend for Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer.

Tomorrow sees the Thames Valley Club Sevens with eight teams competing in short fast games at Waihi Athletic’s club grounds in Kenny St. Games start at 9.30 am and this year there’s a new shield which those that don’t get into the playoffs will be vying for.

The Provincial Sevens with six men’s teams and five women’s teams competition in Whangamata is coming up on Saturday 23 November.

There’s the Age Grade Awards Evening tonight, Friday Nov 8, with all the rep teams up for awards. It’s being held at Waihi Event Centre with a couple of new categories, the age grade player of the year and age grade Maori Player of the Year.

Marcus said there are awards for those managing too so it should be a good night.

Brian Gentil and Marcus talked about the Sonny Bill Williams deal for $10m for two years.

Marcus and Brian also discussed who might take on the role of All black Coach, with some very talented people vying for that position. That announcement should be before Christmas. And it will be a New Zealander, with plenty of depth due to 26 or so applications.
