Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, had a busy weekend starting on Friday night with the Heartland Representative Rugby Awards for the juniors.

Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Team of the Year and more were all announced to over 300 people packed into the Waihi Memorial Hall. Congrats to all the winners.

Marcus then had a start at 8 am the next morning at Waihi Club grounds in Kenny Street with the Club Sevens Tournament, which the hosts took out.

Marcus had all the action including the Plate winner’s results.

There’s another Sevens Tournament coming up in Whangamata and that’s followed by the Heartland Team competing in Cambridge to qualify for the Northern Regional tournament in Tauranga in mid December.

And the Super Rugby starts in February!Marcus mentioned the Heartland Team has been announced and he thinks the All Black’s new coach might be named on Wednesday.

He and Brian Gentil also talked about Aaron Cruden signing up with the Waikato Chiefs for the 2020 season before heading to Japan, and Handre Pollard of South Africa who’s been in hospital with an eye socket fracture.

And we must wish Marcus and his wife all the best; they’re expecting the arrival of their second child later this week.
