Marcus Howie, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, caught up with Brian Gentil with a roundup of all the rugby news across the weekend.
The Thames Valley SwampFoxes Sevens Team travelled to Tauranga for the National Sevens Tournament last weekend and came up against some top competition from around the country. While they didn’t get a win they got very close Marcus said, when they were at 19 - all in the final game, then a missed pass saw the Canterbury winger race 80 metres to score after the whistle.
A big congratulations to both the women and men in the Sevens Tournament held in South Africa this last weekend.
Early Monday morning the women had a good win over Australia 17 – 7 in their final, while the men came away with a tight win in Cape Town over hosts South Africa 7 – 5.
The Black Ferns Sevens top the women’s standings with 56 points after three rounds, six ahead of Australia with another two points back to the USA.
The All Black Sevens and South Africa top the men’s standings with 41 points each after two rounds, 12 points ahead of France.
The next round for the men and women is in Hamilton at the end of January. It’s time to wind things up for the season and Marcus welcomed a couple of new members to their Thames Valley team as they start to prepare for next year.
