Hauraki Waka Ama competes in National Sprints

The Hauraki Waka Ama Club has been training hard to compete in the 2020 Te Wānanga o Aotearoa National Sprint Championships this week.

The competition started yesterday and goes through until this Saturday, the 18th of January.

Hauraki Waka Ama have two wahine competing in the Golden Masters (60 - 70 years old), Waka 1 (single canoe) 500 meter race on Wednesday.

On Thursday - a Masters Women’s crew (40 - 50 yrs) and a Senior Masters women crew (50 - 60 yrs) compete in the Waka 6 (6 person canoe) 500 metre race.

Also on Thursday - 2 crews (Masters Women & Senior Masters women together make up a Waka 12 crew - 2 canoes strapped together) will compete in the 500 metre sprint race.

Friday - Masters Women, Senior Masters Women and Hauraki Waka Ama’s Mens team are competing in the 1000 metre sprint race that includes turns.
