Marcus Howie, Thames Valley Rugby Football Union’s Rugby Development Officer, brought us up to speed with the National Club Sevens Tournament held in Porirua across last weekend.
Waihi won their local Sevens Tournament which gave them entry to this competition. They managed to get to the Bowl Playoff section, coming up against some top sides along the way.
Marcus and Brian Gentil ran through the results, Brian saying it would have been a productive experience for Waihi leading into the 15-a-side competition starting March 21.
Round 2 of the Super Rugby Competition was played last weekend and there were some interesting results.
The Chiefs had a good win against the Crusaders 25 - 15, with a busy second half, the Blues got their first win of the season beating the Waratahs 32 – 12, and the Hurricanes came back in the last fifteen or so minutes to score a 26- 23 win against the Jaguares in Argentina.
Unfortunately for the Highlanders, their first outing for the season showed a ‘bit of rust’ going down 42 – 20 against the Sharks under the roof in Dunedin.
Marcus and Brian both agreed South Africa can ‘do what they like’; with the news they may join the Six Nations Competition in 2024.
