Media Release: Thames Coromandel District Council

The street skate section of the Whangamata skate park project starts this week.

Contractors arrived on site last week to prepare the area to build the extension to the Whangamata skate park.

Grinding of the skate bowl was done in December 2019.

The works are scheduled to take 10 weeks, with final completion expected to be mid-April.

Thames Coromandel District Council asked the Whangamata community to think about the proposed design (pictured) for the refurbishment and repairs of the existing skate park on Martyn Road (1265m2 approximately in size), and construction of a street skate area next to the existing bowl on top of the bank on the park side.

The design received positive feedback from the Whangamata community, with the contract awarded to Jason Parkes from Premium Skate Parks - a well-respected skate park builder.
