Gold FM Fire Call Out

There was just the one callout this week which was on Friday, February 14 at 8.30 am.
The Waihi Fire & Rescue Service was called to a fire at Homunga Bay, which had been deliberately lit on the beach by the looks.
A walker called it in but when the fire service went looking they couldn’t find a trace, even after going down to the beach in the local farmer’s 4 x 4.
They also got an IRB out from Waihi Beach Surf Life Saving Club to look from the sea, and when they came across the walker who’d called it in he said he had put sand over it but hadn’t give an update to authorities as there was no cellphone coverage where he was.
Moe and Brian Gentil also reminded listeners there’s a total fire ban covering the whole North Island at present.
