Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens ran through the four callouts they had across the last week.
On Tuesday, February 18, the Waihi Fire & Rescue Service attended a shelter belt fire in Golden Valley. The 111 call came in quickly which meant there wasn’t a lot of damage, and the fire didn’t spread. It was caused by power lines arcing Moe said.
At 11.30 pm on Wednesday 19 February the crew was called to assist with a medical situation.
On Friday February 21 at 8 am a fire which had been lit on the side of the road in Regent St was reported. When they arrived the fire had been extinguished and there was no damage.
Then on Sunday February 23 the Waihi firefighters attended a rubbish fire on a private property in Victoria St which was put out and they returned to the station.
Moe and Brian Gentil reminded listeners that even though there was some rain on the weekend there’s still a total fire ban covering the whole North Island at the moment.
