Council Matters ,
Brian Gentil caught up with Thames Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie for an update about her region.
Mayor Sandra reminded people about the rubbish collection being a day later this week due to ANZAC Weekend, saying it was such a cracker and congratulating Reverend Brendon Wilkinson from the Anglican Church Thames for pulling together an awesome ANZAC Service by putting together snippets of people saying different things.
With Level 4 lockdown restriction easing to level 3, it’s hoped to kick-start the local economy but not our social lives just yet.
The Mayor said while some businesses may have trouble surviving going forward others should practise some ingenuity and think about how they can become a takeaway.
Brian and Sandra talked about the need for people to run their water when they return to work and to check everything is ready to go.
The Mayor also suggested businesses get in touch with email@example.com to get involved with their business initiatives.
Anyone concerned about paying council fees, rates etc should check if they meet the hardship criteria council has in place and talk with council or check out their website for information about what services are available.
TCDC is redirecting part of their economic development budget to assisting businesses as well.
Mayor Sandra talked about the council services available in alert level 3 and suggested people make sure they are aware of the things they can and can’t do at the moment.
