Scott Simpson caught up with Brian Gentil this morning who said he’s well, and getting used to Zoom meetings and working from his kitchen bench – the new office for now.
Scott said his office has been open, virtual open that is, with the phones being manned and emails being answered, and he’s had a lot of inquiries from businesses and people who find themselves in awkward situations.
Businesses are looking at how they’re going to run in the future and how many people they will employ in that business.
Some people have had the sad news that they don’t have a job anymore so there’s a lot of uncertainty in our community.
Brian said it will be a different playing field when we come out of Alert Level 2 and 1. He asked how we can reinvent businesses to take advantage of the negative situation.
Scott’s been incredibly impressed at local businesses creativity and wit and imagination who have reconfigured their business to have contactless customer interaction for online deliveries and using the phone and texts to get some cash flow going under Level 3.
Scott and Brian talked about the old saying ‘don’t leave town until you’ve seen the country’ and the domestic tourism push, and for locals to buy locally too.
Brian also asked Scott to explain about the changes to the electoral boundary with Omokoroa coming into the Coromandel electorate while Te Aroha, Waihou and Waitoa leave to join the Waikato electorate.
