Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said it was an unexpectedly very quiet week for the Waihi Fire & Rescue team when he spoke with Brian Gentil this morning on Gold FM.
With the change to wet and windy wintry conditions together with an influx of visitors across the long Queen’s Birthday Weekend the Waihi Fire & Rescue had just two callouts.
The first was on Saturday night at 8.45 pm when they were called out to assist the police with a matter, which gladly worked out alright. Moe said the other call was this morning, Tuesday 2 June, at 5.30 am to assist with St John.
He was pleased they had no calls across the weekend, although it was sad to hear of the fatal crash on the Paeroa side of the Karangahake Gorge on Saturday.
People should take care driving in the wet and windy weather and be aware of debris and slips, so drive to the conditions.
