It’s all on for Thames Valley Rugby Football Union staff as they prepare for the women’s training and competition, the juniors taking the field this weekend, the senior men’s H G Leach Senior A and Senior B competition also kicking off this Saturday, and the Super Rugby got underway last weekend.
Brian caught up with Marcus Howie, the Rugby Development Officer, and firstly talked about the first two Super Rugby Aotearoa games to be played after the Covid-19 lockdown, and with great crowds turning out.
Marcus loved the scorelines, both of which he picked.
The Chiefs visited the Highlanders in Dunedin and lost when Bryn Gatland succeeded with a 40 metre drop goal with just a couple of minutes to go, meaning his side, the Highlanders, beat his father’s side the Chiefs 28 - 27.
On Sunday the Blues hosted the Hurricanes, winning 30 – 20 in front of a sold out crowd of about 43,000 at Eden Park.
Marcus then brought us up to date with the Women’s coaching and tournament series starting up on Wednesday night in Paeroa. It’s not too late for any women that would like to take part to join them.
The junior rugby is back as of this Saturday and Marcus says the kids are pretty excited. He said there won’t be any trophy play this season but it’s great they are finally getting some game time.
Brian and Marcus discussed the start of the Thames Valley H G Leach Men’s Senior A and B club competitions starting this Saturday, with the Coromandel club letting them know they would be entering the Senior B competition.
