Gold FM’s Fire Callout with Chief Fire officer Moe Stevens on Monday covered six calls over the last week.
Last Monday July 6 at 8 am, they were called to a medical assist to land the rescue helicopter at Morgan Park.
On Tuesday 7 July there were two callouts. Firstly, at 7 am they headed out towards Tauranga on State Highway 2 where one of the trucks putting in safety barriers got too close to the road edge and rolled on its side. They managed to get the driver, who was stuck in the cab, out.
Later on Tuesday at 2 pm they went out onto the Whangamata Rd where a tree had come down across the road. They removed it and cleared the debris.
On Thursday July 9 they attended a crash at 7 pm when a car hit a truck and went over a bank in the Karangahake Gorge, narrowly missing going right into the river. The driver was taken away by police for further questioning and the vehicle was left to be recovered at another time.
On Saturday 11 July they were called to a rubbish fire along Barry Rd. This was under control so no action was taken.
And on Sunday July 12, at 2.30 pm they were called to a bad crash on the corner of State Highway 2, Parry Palm Ave, and Wrigley St in Waihi after a car collided with an oncoming motorhome. Two rescue helicopters were called to take the man and woman in the car to Waikato Hospital, where sadly the man passed away.A third person was transported to Waikato hospital by ambulance.
