Road Closure - Rahu Road
Rahu Road, Mackaytown, is closed about 200m from the SH2 intersection due to a fallen tree blocking both sides of the road.A detour is in place via Victoria and Albert Streets.Residents are advised rubbish and recycling won’t be collected in the Rahu Road area today due to the road closure.

Road Update Thames Coromandel
CLOSED: SH25 Whitianga to Tairua is closed at Wade Road due to flooding. Avoid the area or delay your journey if possible, as more wet weather and a high-tide is expected this afternoon (3.40pm).

TCDC has been advised the road from Pauanui to Prescott’s is also flooding and only passable on one side with water rising fast. With high tide not until later this afternoon (3.40pm), this could be a long closure so please avoid the area.

Colville Road - two slips from recent weather events mean the road is only open to one lane in places (2.8km south of Papa Aroha and 2.9km north of Waitete Bay). Stop/go traffic management is in place so please drive with caution.

Stop/go traffic management is in place through-out the district while the roads are cleared from storm damage. Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected or if possible please delay your travel until tomorrow when the storm has passed.

“Overall we can expect a similar outcome to the last rain event in late June, with surface flooding, slips and road closures,” says Civil Defence Controller, Garry Towler. “High tides are mid-afternoon, so it’s highly likely the Eastern Seaboard will be isolated again at Hikuai and possibly south of Whitianga for some time.”

“If you have plans to travel today, please reconsider,” says Mr Towler. “We advise you now wait it out until Friday. The risks are not worth it, it’s that simple.”

High tide - Thursday 16 July:
Thames - 3:40pm, 3.0m
Whitianga - 3:39pm, 1.8m

Slip over road:
SH25 - slip between Tairua and Whangamata - before the Kopu Hikuai turn off.
