OceanaGold Senior Communications Advisor Kit Wilson called into the Gold FM studio this morning just after news broke that the mining company has announced a new proposal to extend the life of mining in and around Waihi.
The Project Quattro proposal involves four major activities - an expansion of the Martha open pit, a new open pit to the south of Waihi, a rock stack and a third tailings storage area.
It’s a complex proposal with local road alignments, relocation of Waihi features like the Cornish PumpHouse and other buildings, the removal of others and more - so Kit took time out to talk to Brian about what it involves.
Kit recommended people interested to find out more visit www.waihigold.co.nz to view the documents.
A drop-in information centre will be opened in Seddon Street soon for people to call in and talk to staff about the proposal if they have questions.
