Marcus Howie, the Rugby Development Officer for the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union, joined Brian Gentil for the Gold FM Rugby Report on Monday morning with Harcourts Gold Star in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach.
There were some good games in the H G Leach Thames Valley Club Rugby competition and the Senior B’s went under the microscope first, followed by the Senior A games. With just a week or two to go before playoffs teams are vying for all the points they can get at the moment.
The focus then went on to the Super Rugby Aotearoa games with Marcus and Brian. The Hurricanes headed south to Christchurch to take on the Crusaders, who hadn’t been beaten at home since 2016 when the Hurricanes beat them. And they didn’t disappoint their fans who traveled south with them, beating the Crusaders in a close fought game by just two points, 34 - 32. The Chiefs were at Eden Park to take on an inform Blues side at home and almost, but not quite, got their first win of the season. They were parked on the Blues try line for a good part of the last 5 minutes but couldn’t get across for the necessary points, losing 21 - 17.
