Brian Gentil was joined by Rugby Development Officer Scott Day from the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union on Friday morning’s Rugby Report with Harcourts Goldstar, in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach.
This weekend there’s plenty of action with junior and school rugby, and also a Festival Day happening Saturday around the territory. Scott explained the plan behind combining all the same age groups in the same place to play a couple of games on the same day.
Scott also has a new programme for juniors on Sunday he’s running at Waihi Athletic’s grounds called Scrum Factory, which caters for both boys and girls at different age levels.
The H G Leach Club Rugby is down to the last week for the Senior B’s before the playoffs start next week, while the Senior A’s have another couple of weeks of round robin games still to come. Scott and Brian ran through both these competitions, with Scott taking the field for Whangamata against Thames tomorrow in the Senior A’s.
The Super Rugby Aotearoa games this weekend are looking good. Scott is picking the Chiefs to upset the Crusaders tomorrow night in Christchurch, and Brian’s right behind him with that result. And the Highlanders battle it out with the Blues visiting Forsyth Bar Stadium on Sunday, Scott and Brian picking a win to Auckland.
Brian and Scott also commented on the passing of rugby great and ex All Black Andy Hayden earlier this week, a standout player across the 1970’s and 1980’s, and also a strong supporter of fair conditions for players.
And they finished the report talking about the possibility of a Pasifika rugby team joining super rugby … watch this space.
