On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star, Brian Gentil caught up with Marcus Howie, Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley Rugby Football Union. Firstly they touched base on a great day for schoolkids this Wednesday with a Tackle Day in Ngtea.
H G Leach Club Rugby was all on last Saturday with some teams needing to win to stay in contention for the playoffs coming up.
Senior B’s had a good round with the teams qualifying for the semi’s this weekend being decided. The Morrisey Cup is up for grabs for the winner of this weekend’s game between 1st and 2nd, Coromandel at home against Tairua. Also playing off this weekend are Hauraki North and Cobras, with the winner of that game going on to play the loser of the first and second playoff game.
The Senior A Competition has another Round Robin weekend, the Derby Round, to come this weekend. Marcus and Brian ran through the results, including a 29 all draw between Waihi and Cobras.
Then it was on to the Super Rugby Aotearoa results from the two games played over the weekend.
The Chiefs couldn’t keep the Crusaders at bay, going down 32 - 19, again with some strange referee calls.
And the Blues were too strong for the Highlanders, with a great game played in Dunedin on Sunday afternoon, winning 32 - 21. That sees them just two points behind the Crusaders, who have a game in hand after their bye in the first round. The Crusaders could take the title this weekend if they get the win against the Highlanders.
