Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union Rugby Development Officer, caught up with Brian Gentil with the Gold FM Rugby Report, thanks to Harcourts Gold Star. They started with a quick look at the Tackle Day for kids held last Wednesday with big numbers turning out for a successful day in Ngatea.
Then it was on to the H G Leach Club Rugby games this the weekend. The Senior B’s are in playoff mode and unfortunately Coromandel has had to pull out of their game due to a death within the club, leaving Tairua to go into next weekend’s playoff round.
This weekend is the last round of club competition for the Senior A games, and it’s a Derby Round! Marcus was excited about some of the match-ups with teams playing for positions in the semifinals next week. There’s not much between the top sides so all eyes will be on the scoreboards to see who won, where that leaves them on the table, and who will go through to the semi-finals next weekend.
Brian and Marcus talked about this weekend’s round in the Super Rugby Aotearoa, with two exciting match-ups. The Hurricanes host the Chiefs, who are desperate for there first win, on Saturday night. And Sunday’s game between the Crusaders and Highlanders could see the trophy lifted, if the Crusaders win, with a week to spare. But Marcus thinks there may be an upset which would see a true final next week with the Blues hosting the Crusaders at Eden Park, a fitting way to really end the Super Rugby season.
Thanks to Harcourts Gold Star, in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach, proud sponsor of the Gold FM Rugby Report.
