On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors Brian Gentil spoke with Brent Willoughby from the Waihi Association Football Club, starting with the junior action on Saturday. There are a mixture of home and away games, with Waihi College fields featuring several games.
Brent and Brian talked about Waihi’s away game against Hamilton’s Melville Nobs at Gower Park on Saturday. In the first round Waihi only lost 1 - 0, and with a little hard work and possibly a little luck, they might surprise their opposition, who are currently second in the competition.
The Wellington Phoenix, who ended the regular season in third position, has a game this weekend in the A-League playoffs against Perth Glory on Saturday night starting at 7 pm.
Brent also touched on the Champions and Europa Cup final series, with both featuring games over the weekend. And Brian and Brent also caught up with the start of the next English Premier League, which gets underway a little later this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, on September 12.
New Zealander Chris Wood, currently doing very well with Burnley, is in good form scoring at least 10 goals in each of the last three seasons, with only two others in the EPL able to brag the same credentials. There’s been talk of a move to an Italian club, but Burnley isn’t going to let him go for the current offer of about $NZ26 million.
