On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Goldstar, Brian Gentil spoke with Marcus Howie, Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley Rugby Football Union about the finals day held in Waihi last Saturday in fine conditions.
Three games were played to decide who took home the trophies for the 2020 season like no other. Games were transferred from Thames after the decision not to allow spectators, and Waihi has a good secure ground. There were still a few hardy souls, some of who had erected a Scotsman’s Grandstand outside the fence perimeter.
First up the Senior A’s Patrons Cup was played for between Waihi and Waihou, with Waihou winning 34 - 21.
The second game was for the Senior B’s H G Lawrence Cup with Coromandel coming out winners against Tairua 23 - 15.
And the grand final in the Senior A’s Competition was a battle from start to fginish with neither side giving an inch, Whangamata finally claiming the McGlinchey Cup 21 - 15 over Cobras.
Brian congratulated the Thames Valley RFU team, Marcus, Scott Day and Kaitlin Russell for running a very successful day, even without the crowds.
Brian and Marcus talked briefly about the All Blacks and the chances of any internationals being played this year, and Marcus also looked ahead at a couple of rugby events coming up in our area soon
A big thanks to Gold FM Rugby Report sponsors, Harcourts Goldstar in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach.
