On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors Brian Gentil spoke with Brent Willoughby about the junior football first up, with some good wins on Saturday to a mix of teams, and the occasional loss.
Waihi Association Football Club had a home game on Saturday, playing West Hamilton United, who they drew with in the first round. Unfortunately they went down 1 - 0 after one of the Waihi players was sent off in the second half. Brent said they played well and it was a niggly game.
Brent and Brian looked at the final of the A-League played over the weekend, with Sydney FC taking the honours against Melbourne City 1 - 0 in extra time.
Brian and Brent then touched on some Kiwi players who are doing well overseas. Liberato Cacace from the Wellington Phoenix has signed a two year contract with Belgian club Sint-Truiden, while Winston Reid took the field for a good game after some injury time recently.
Brent mentioned Nico Kirwan, Sir John Kirwan’s son, is playing in the north of Italy. Brian also commented that Football Ferns defender Meikayla Moore has signed with Liverpool FC after two seasons with MSV Duisburg in the women’s Bundesliga.
