Media Release: PowerCo
The wild weather in the Coromandel region on Tuesday 15th September has damaged a double cross arm on one of the poles that holds the main electricity overhead line between Waihi and Whangamata. The crossarm has been made safe, however replacing it is urgent to ensure ongoing power supply.
Work will be conducted on Thursday 17th September to address the issue, requiring a power outage for the Whangamata community from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
The Whangamata central business district will retain power thanks to the recently commissioned Powerco Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), however a short outage immediately prior to 9.30am and post-2.30pm, may be experienced as the battery is activated.
The pole is located in a remote and rugged location on top of a steep hill, making this job particularly challenging.
Powerco thanks Whangamata customers for their understanding regarding this urgent outage.
