The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star was interesting with some upset games and a good tournament in Taupo to talk about with Marcus Howie, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley RFU.
Marcus was in Taupo for the Secondary Schools Champion of Champions Tournament, held at Owen Delaney Park. While all three of the teams from the Thames Valley lost, Marcus was pleased with their performances, and he also congratulated Taupo nui-a-Tia College, who won all three cups, the Under 15’s, the First XV Girls and First XV Boys.
Brian Gentil and Marcus then focused on the National Provincial Cup results across the weekend. Marcus managed a good number of picks, but is still having to catch up to Kaitlin Russell from Thames Valley RFU, who’s doing well with her picks at the moment.
Brian and Marcus ran through all the results, which included Tasman beating Waikato 34 - 17, Hawkes Bay winning against Canterbury by 1 point, 20 - 19, and the Ranfurly Shield got solemnly handed over to Otago on Sunday afternoon, when Taranaki lost 30 - 19 after winning the ‘Old Log’ the weekend before. Auckland had a good win 50 - 12 over Manawatu and Southland upset North Harbour who travelled south, with a close, low scoring game 11 - 10.
Brian then asked Marcus what he had in store for his week, and it’s a busy one with some Under 23’s and Maori side practices, and possibly a trip to Hamilton to check out the Chiefs Under 18 team who are in camp at St Paul’s College. Then on Friday Marcus is heading to Rotorua for the Under 23’s game against Bay of Plenty.
Thanks to Harcourts Gold Star, in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach for supporting rugby.
