Brian Gentil caught up with Porkbones from Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club as they prepare for their first meeting for the season this Sunday from 11 am.
There’s been a bit of work done around the track in the off season, including the tarsealing of the driveway, making it more accessible for cars towing trailers. This will likely see an increase of cars and categories this season Porkbones said. And they’ve got a new food caravan too. Toilet facilities and the club rooms will be open, and it’s still just $5 for adults and under 12’s get in for free.
Porkbones said they’re looking at go carts, quarter midgets and possibly the return of the 6 shooters this season, with more seating being added in the off season as well.
Brian asked about season and visit to and from Meremere and the Waiheke trip. And Porkbones is all set for another season with a bit of extra lead in his right boot to keep that peddle to the metal, and hopefully a bit of extra ooomph in the car with some tinkering going on over winter.
Good luck to the racers, both men and women, for the upcoming season from the team at Gold FM, pleased to support the Waihi Beach Dirt Track Club again this season.
Head out on Waihi Beach Rd and as you head down the gorge you’ll see the signs on the left, head up the driveway, park neatly, pay $5 per adult (under 12’s are free) and settle in for some hot racing action.
