Thames Valley Rugby Development Officer Marcus Howie has managed to stretch a three day weekend in to four so Scotty Day was happy to deliver the rugby report today.
Congratulations were in order for Scotty and his Whangamata Senior A’s for taking home the highly prized McClinchy Cup. A jersey presentation and celebration is happening tonight.
Scott spoke about the junior rugby saying the Under 16s are playing an Eastern Bay of Plenty team on Saturday at Tauranga Domain.
The Secondary Schools Sevens Tournament had 15 teams playing at Thames Rugby & Sports Club on Wednesday. In the Under 15’s Mercury Bay Area School pipped Waihi College 17 - 12 in the final.
Matamata College defeated Putaruru 15 - 10 in the girls’ open final. Mercury Bay Area School go through to the national final later in the year, Scott said. Mercury Bay Area School edged out Whangamata Area School in the final.
The Under 23’s have their only home game next Saturday with a 1 pm kick off at Rhodes Park in Thames. Scott said they’d love to see a good crowd there to cheer on their fullas. They had a good training and are showing good form.
Brian Gentil brought up the National Provincial Competition with some great games kicking off from tonight. Scott and Brian went through the match ups with their picks and talked about the Ranfurly Shield challenge and the ‘Battle of the Jaffas’ game between North Harbour and Auckland. More great rugby is on Sunday too.
