The Gold FM Fire Call Out on Tuesday covered six jobs Waihi Fire and Rescue Service attended over the last week.
Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens ran through them starting last Thursday 22 October, when the alarm was raised at 11.45 am with a call to the old Countdown store in Waihi. The dust from some concrete cutting set the alarm system off. An hour later at 12.45 pm they headed to Morgan Park to assist the rescue helicopter to land and take off safely.
There were two calls on Saturday October 24. The first was at 5.30 pm where they assisted St John. They were called out again at 9.30 pm that night when they attended a fire beside the road in Wrigley St. A fabric bin with waste material in it was put out. They’re not sure if something ignited inside the bag or it was lit by a passerby.
And they had another two calls on Sunday, October 25. At 3 pm they had another medical assist with St John and the siren went off again at 5.45 pm when they went to the International Academy on Landlyst Rd, Golden Valley, after an alarm went off. After checking the premises and finding nothing they headed back to the station.
