Waihi Association Football Club’s Brent Willoughby joined Brian Gentil on Tuesday morning with another Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors. First up was a round up of the very successful two day Labour Weekend Tournament Waihi hosts each year. It almost didn’t happen, but with the lock down lifted and some quick organisation this well oiled tourny came to life. Even Katikati dropping out a couple of days beforehand was handled with others pulling on their boots and seven teams competing, not too seriously, at Waihi College’s grounds.
Then Brian and Brent talked about the latest UEFA Champions League games on at the moment. Liverpool plays tomorrow morning and Manchester United, Juventus and Manchester City all with games over the next couple of days. In the UEFA Europa League Brent’s Tottenham Hotspurs won comfortably 3 nil, the same scoreline as Leicester City’s win. These teams are back on Friday October 30 with another round.
Brian and Brent then checked the results of the English Premier League, after another weekend of great games. After Aston Villa comfortably beat Liverpool a week or so ago, Brent said they went down 3 - 0 against Leeds United. Manchester City traveled to West Ham for a 1 all draw, while Manchester United had the home ground advantage, but couldn’t get the win, or even a goal, with a nil all draw the end result. Liverpool beat Sheffield United 2 - 1 while Everton lost against Southampton 2 - 0. This means there are no sides without a loss after seven rounds this year. Since the report Tottenham have come away with a 1 - 0 win Monday morning against Burnley.
Brent ended with an update on local Waihi player Mason Sass wo spent the weekend in Napier playing in a national tournament. Saturday they remained unbeaten but couldn’t match that effort on Sunday.
