The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Tuesday was full of results when Brian Gentil caught up with Scotty Day from Thames Valley Rugby Football Union. Some of those results weren’t what most expected, which is what makes rugby so intriguing.
Scott started with a quick look ahead woth the Thames Balley Under 23’s game coming up tis weekend against Waikato Under 20’s at Rhodes park in Thames on Saturday.
From there it was straight into the results across the weekend with the National Provincial Competition proving to be a tough round to pick. Otago won comfortably at home against Northland 30 - 7, while Bay of Plenty surprised everyone with the game of their season , easily beating Canterbury 44 - 8.
The Ranfurly Shield stays in Hawkes Bay for the moment after their 47 - 12 win against Manawatu, with just one more defense of the log of wood in a couple of weeks, against Wellington on Sunday November 8. Other winners included Waikato at home against Taranaki 27 - 20, Wellington was too strong for Counties Manukau in Pukekohe scoring 53 points to their opponents 20 and Auckland crossing the Harbour Bridge and losing to North Harbour 23 - 22.
Scott and Brian also talked about the All Blacks, back this weekend with round 3 of the Bledisloe Cup, and start of the Tri Nations Competition. They play Australia in Sydney this weekend with the cup definitely still alive. Then it’s off to Brisbane for another game, their fourth in arow agaisnt eachother, the following weekend.
