The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star started with Brian Gentil asking Marcus Howie, the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union Rugby Development Officer, about the Thames Valley Under 23’s last game of the season tomorrow. Marcus said they’re playing Counties Manukau in Waiuku with kick off at 2.30 pm.
The focus then switched to the National Provincial Competition with another round of great games lined up. Brian and Marcus looked at the games which include Tasman at home in Blenheim against Canterbury, who are in danger of relegation at the moment. Auckland are at home to Northland, and Bay of Plenty are travelling across the Kaimais to play Waikato in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon. Hawkes Bay are at home, defending the Ranfurly Shield with Wellington visiting McLean Park in Napier. If the Magpies win they’ll hold on the ‘the old log’ across summer.
Marcus and Brian talked about the Bledisloe Cup / Tri Nations game between Australia and the All Blacks in Brisbane on Saturday night. Marcus said he was pleased to see a roll over of players with the All Blacks. Ian Foster has brought in some new players, and moved others around which should be interesting on Saturday night. The Australian side, under coach Dave Rennie, has also changed a few players with several debutantes named in their side.
And Brian wrapped up by asking Marcus about the news South Africa was back in the fold for the Super Rugby in 2021 after talk they would join the Pro14 or similar.
Thanks Harcourts Gold Star, in Thames, Paeroa, Waihi and Waihi Beach for supporting rugby.
