BNZ closing 38 branches before July 2021

The Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is to close 38 branches within the next 12 months, including Katikati, Waihi, Whangamata, Coromandel Town and Te Aroha.

Eight metro branches will close on Christmas Eve, December 24, this year

• Manurewa

• Mosgiel

• Mount Maunganui

• Pakuranga

• Papatoetoe

• Petone

14 other branches will close between February and March 2021 , including Katikati.

• Orewa

• Ōtorohanga

• St Heliers

• Taihape

• Waiheke

• Waimate

• Wairoa

• Westport

A further 16 branches will close between April and June 2021, including Waihi, Whangamata, Coromandel Town and Te Aroha.

BNZ bank’s chief customer officer, Paul Carter, said the closures are due to a majority of customers banking online and talented bankers often waiting in empty branches for customers.

BNZ would work with the bankers in the branches affected to find new opportunities within the bank. Every affected employee would be offered another position, he said.
