At 3.44pm 10 years ago today on Thursday 19 November, the Pike River Mine exploded, resulting in the deaths of 29 men. Two men who escaped that day also had their lives changed forever.
Two ceremonies take place this week - one on site at Pike River, and one in Parliament, Wellington. Both provide a chance to think about those men, what happened, and how we might be able to avoid such terrible loss and tragedy in the future.
Spare a thought on Thursday at 3.44pm.
