Yesterday, Wednesday March 10, motorists were advised to delay their journeys on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Range due to a serious crash that had closed the road.
There was no detour available and the road remained closed for some time.
At around 3:45pm the TECT Rescue Helicopter and the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter were dispatched to that motor vehicle accident.
A status 2 and a status 3 patient were transported to Tauranga Hospital by road.
The TECT Rescue Helicopter Intensive Care Paramedic performed a RSI (Rapid Sequence Intubation) on the status 1 patient at the scene. The male in his 50s had sustained multiple serious injuries.
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter then urgently transported the man to Waikato Hospital, cared for by the onboard Intensive Care Paramedic and doctor.
Motorists affected by the road closure are thanked for their patience.
Police later confirmed that one person died due to the crash.
