The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star had all the results from across the weekend.
Scott Day, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer joined Brian Gentil and explained how his Whangamata side, who won by default, still have to wash their kit after having a training session in their gear to help them get that game day feel.
With the start of the H G Leach Senior Club Rugby Competition last weekend Brian asked Scott about the results for the the Senior B Elders Cup first up, with some great games in the first round.
The Silcock Shield Senior A Competition got underway in wet but warm conditions last weekend as well, and Scott and Brian ran through the results of some hard fought, and a couple of low scoring games.
The Super Rugby Aotearoa Rugby Competition was next to get a mention, with the new golden point rule coming into play, for both games.
The Chiefs took the points after Damien McKenzie dropped a goal in the new 10 minutes of extra time rule, with a 26 - 23 final score line in Saturday night’s match against the Highlanders under the roof in Dunedin.
And the visitors also won on Sunday in the very popular afternoon match between home side the Hurricanes and the Crusaders. A top versus bottom of the table clash saw a real game that was even all the way through. Scott said he was proud to be a ‘Canes’ supporter after the effort they put in against a top side like the Crusaders. The final score, with the drop goal again coming in golden point overtime, was 30 - 27 to the Crusaders.
Scott mentioned that some of the Thames Valley Junior teams will be supplying the guard of honour at the Chiefs game this weekend against the Crusaders, so that will be exciting for them.
