The flood of all floods inundated our district swallowing Waikino today back in 1981
Do you remember the rain that began on Saturday April 11, 1981 and what it was like for you at that time?
Graham Watton’s article in the Ohinemuri Gazette describes the 100 year rain event that caused a civil defence emergency to be declared in Paeroa and surrounding districts culminating in a metre high surge of water from the Ohinemuri River washing away Waikino village in the Karangahake Gorge.
