On the Gold FM Fire Call Out on Tuesday morning Brian Gentil spoke with Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens from Waihi Fire and Rescue and talked about the four calls they attended over the last week.
Last Monday, April 19, the siren went off at 9 pm when they went to a fire in Wilson St. The people there were burning trees they had cut down and had everything in place and under control so the firefighters returned to base.
Lat Thursday, April 22, two call outs came in. The first was an early start at 4.45 am when they were called out to … the fire station. Apparently the last time some wiring was done a wire was put in the wrong place which caused the alarm to go off. Moe hopes this has been rectified.
Later last Thursday at 1.30 pm they headed to Waihi Beach RSA after their alarm went off. It was a false alarm, literally, with the system again under question.
And on Sunday 25 April, ANZAC Day, at 3.45 pm Waihi Fire & Rescue were called to a traffic crash on Waihi Beach Rd that could have ended up a lot worse. Moe said a trailer with a caravan on it came off the towing vehicle and ran through a fence and into a paddock. Luckily no-one was injured and they managed to get the trailer back on the road and hitched up correctly.
