There was plenty to talk about on the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning. Brian started with a quiet happy birthday to Rudy Sas, whose big day is tomorrow but his crew was celebrating with brekkie beside a warm fire at a cafe this morning while Rudy reported in.
Waihi Year 7 and 8’s have an early start for their 9 am game against Papamoa Jaguars on Saturday morning. And Waihi College First XI travel to Rototuna to the new Korikori Park to play Hamilton Christian School in another grading game. Good luck to both teams.
Waihi Reserves are playing later on Saturday than usual with kick off at 2.45 pm at Waihi College, on the ‘pristine field prepared by Matty Matich’ as Rudy said. They’d love your support as they play Cambridge, who are second on the table. Go the Green and Golds!
Waihi Seniors are away against Northern United Humble Bees. They are also playing at the new Korikori Park in Rototuna with a start time of 12.30 pm. All the best to Waihi who are currently in second place on the table with just the Humble Bees ahead of them. This will be a great game.
Rudy and Brian covered the latest news on the Wellington Phoenix, who still have a chance at the playoffs after a couple of wins over the last week, and another game on Sunday. Birthday boy tomorrow, Saturday, Rudy is going to that game at Eden Park with a bunch of family and friends, but says the shirt stays on! The game starts at 3.35 pm as they take on Perth Glory.
Brian asked what happened to Manchester United in the Europa League Cup final. Sadly Rudy says his favourite side ended the season with no trophies after losing after full time, extra time and then a penalty shootout like no other. Rudy said each side took a penalty each, with every shot taken by a different player and ended up 10 all with only the two goalkeepers to take their turn. VillaReal’s keeper knocked home a great shot … and unfortunately Man U’s goalie had his shot saved. And there endeth the game, and Manchester’s season.
Then Brian and Rudy looked ahead at Sunday morning’s Champions League Cup final. This will be a good one to get up and watch with a start time of 7 am between Manchester City and Chelsea.
Rudy, friends and family are off to the Wellington Phoenix game at Eden Park on Sunday afternoon and he’ll report in on Monday about the atmosphere, the result and where that leaves them going into the playoffs.
