The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold star started with the Rippa Rugby Tournament in Whitianga and an update on a great day from Scott Day, the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union’s Rugby Development Officer.
Scott mentioned there are a couple of good First XV games on Saturday with neighbours Paeroa and Hauraki Plains Colleges playing in Paeroa, and Whangamata Area School at home against Mercury Bay Area School. Both games would be good sideline entertainment.
Brian and Scott focused on the Thames Valley Club Rugby and the Senior B Competition next. Four good games all start at 12.25 pm with Coromandel at home to Paeroa, Thames hosting their neighbours Ngatea, Waihou traveling to Waitakaruru to take on Hauraki North and Waihi hoping for a win at home when they playMercury Bay.
The Senior A Club Competition Round Two games on Saturday will be played in wet conditions Scott said, which might see a few game plans change. Brian suggested folk get along with their gumboots to support the teams. Scott won’t be playing tomorrow for Whangamata when they take on Thames as he has had the HIA and won’t be back on toe playing field for three weeks. The other games are all being played at 2 pm as well, with Hauraki North and Paeroa battling it out, Waihi Athletic at home against Waihou and Cobras traveling all the way to Whitianga to play Mercury Bay.
Scott and Brian checked out the Trans Tasman Super Rugby with another great round of games to watch. There are a couple of games that may change venue with the Covid-19 lockdown in parts of Australia on at the moment. at 7.05 pm on Friday night the Hurricanes host the Western Force at McLean Park in Napier.
Then on Saturday there are three games. The first is at 5.05 pm when the NSW Waratahs take on the Crusaders at home in Wollongong. Then at 7.05 pm the Blues have the home ground advantage at Eden Park when they play the Brumbies. Scott reckons if any Australian side is going to win against a New Zealand side it’s the Brumbies. Brian mentioned this is their third game in NZ and they haven’t got a win yet so they’ll be giving it their all before heading across the Tasman. The other game on Saturday is between the Queensland Reds and the Chiefs; at this stage in Townsville.
And Sunday’s ‘home game’ for the Highlanders against the Melbourne Rebels has been shifted to Australia. The Rebels have had to move out of Melbourne while Victoria is under a seven day lockdown. That game’s now being played in Sydney at 2.35 pm at this stage.
