The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors started with Brian checking on the number of kilometres Rudy Sas did over the weekend, with trips to Hamilton and Auckland a couple of times. It was Rudy’s birthday on Saturday too.
Rudy and Brian covered the Waihi Year 7 and 8’s and Waihi College First XI games and then went on to the Waihi Senior Reserves and their away game against Cambridge, which ended in a 1 all draw.
The Waihi Seniors also drew in their clash with the top of the table Northern United Humblebees, leaving them in second place 2 points behind them.
Rudy was in Auckland for the Wellington Phoenix’s game at Eden Park against Perth Glory on Sunday. Rudy said it was one of those games that was well worth being at with lots of action at both ends of the field. While the Phoenix had a chance to win with a penalty, the Perth keeper managed a good save which meant both sides shared a point each out of the game.
Wellington Phoenix has just one game left and must win that and count on other sides losing to get into the playoffs.
Brian and Rudy had a look at the Champions League Final, with Chelsea pleasing Rudy by beating Manchester City 1 - 0.
And with Brent Willoughby, the previous footy reporter on Gold FM, supporting Brentford as his second favourite team after Tottenham Hotspurs, Rudy and Brian wondered where his allegiance will lie now they’ve been promoted to the Premier League, the first time in 74 years and their 9th attempt, when they play each other.
