The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors was on Tuesday morning this week, a little later due to Queen’s Birthday and the public holiday on Monday.
Brian Gentil and Rudy Sas started with a look at the Waihi First XI game in Hamilton on Saturday where they played Fairfield College, and almost came away with a draw after being down by two or three goals at one point. Unfortunately Rudy said there was a lack of concentration at the end and Fairfield scored a late goal to take the game 5 - 4.
This weekend was a return to the Knockout Plate Cup Competition with both Waihi sides travelling away. Waihi Reserves were up against Claudelands Rovers Cuckoos and came away the victors 2 - 1, surviving to play again in the next round.
Waihi Seniors headed to the South Waikato to play Putaruru Rangers and had a good win 7 - 1 so they move on to the next round as well. Rudy mentioned several of the scoring players and that some of Waihi’s younger players had a good game and are settling in to the senior football scene.
Rudy and Brian talked about the Wellington Phoenix and their final game of the season, winning 3 - 0 against Macarthur, who are in the top six and the playoffs.
Brian said it was good to see Steven Taylor signing on for another season, the English player has been a staunch defender for the Phoenix and it’s good that he’s keen to stay with the club.
And Rudy made mention of the UEFA European Cup as they prepare to get underway with more details coming on Friday in our preview.
