The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday started with Rudy Sas covering the Waihi College Year 7’s and 8’s, who have finished their grading games and are playing this season in the first division. They’re playing at 9.30 at Waihi College against Greerton Blue Rovers on Saturday morning. The First XI have a weekend off.

Brian and Rudy focused on the Waihi Association Football Club games this weekend next with the Senior Reserves traveling to Strathmore Park in the South Waikato to take on Tokoroa Reserves, kicking off at 12.30 pm.

Waihi’s Senior A side is in 2nd position on the table at the moment and they’re playing at home at Waihi College on Saturday coming up against Melville United, who are 4th at the moment. Kickoff is at 2.45 pm if you’d like to cheer on the home side, they’d love to hear you sideline. Rudy said both teams have a few more players available which is good.

Brian asked Rudy about the long overdue TLC and re-grassing at Morgan Park and how long it was before they got to play on their true home turf. Rudy said trainings had started there on Tuesday and they were waiting to see how it held up with the wet weather currently, so hopefully not too far away.

Rudy mentioned the Waihi Junior AFC season will start on Sunday 27 June, after the grass has had a good chance to become well established. So clean off your boots, boys and girls are welcome, and we’ll talk more about this closer to the time.

The UEFA Euro group games are about to get underway and Brian got Rudy to give a little background to the competition. The first games include Turkey and Italy, Wales and Switzerland, England and Croatia battling it out over the next month with the final onJuly 12.

Brian asked Rudy about his son Mason, who plays for the Hamilton Wanderers Reserves. Proud Dad Rudy said that at training on Thursday the coach of the first team called Mason out to join them, which Rudy said is such an awesome thing for Mason to experience. The opportunity to rub shoulders with these players can only do him good.

The report ended with a conversation between Brian and Rudy about how to say goodbye in Rudy’s native Dutch language, with Brian getting it totally wrong. Apparently the Waihi players challenge Rudy each week to say something on the Gold FM Football Report … or he gets fined! Brian asked what the arrangement was if he achieves the challenge, and suggested there should be a counter challenge - that could be based on winning?
