The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning started with Scott Day, the Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer, covering the junior rugby and secondary school First XV games being played on Saturday. Paeroa College are at home against Waihi College and Hauraki Plains College are hosting Mercury Bay Area School in the other match.
Brian also asked how the Rippa Rugby Tournament in Te Aroha last Wednesday went. Scott said the last of the qualifying tournaments was a big hit even with the wet weather, and they’re looking forward to the next round in a couple of weeks in Paeroa.
Brian and Scott checked out the Thames Valley H G Leach Club Rugby Competition next, starting with the Senior B’s. These three games kick off at 12.25 pm. Paeroa host Thames while Cobras are at home against Hauraki North. Also playing in Te Aroha, Waihou have the home ground advantage over Ngatea. And at 2 pm Coromandel are up against neighbours Mercury Bay, who will travel over from Whitianga.
The Senior A’s are back in action this weekend after a break over Queen’s Birthday Weekend. There are some great match-ups this week Scott said with Thames traveling across to play Paeroa, Waihou hosting the Cobras in Te Aroha, Waihi Athletic are up against Whangamata in a game Scott has predicted will be a draw, and Mercury Bay playing Hauraki North at Lyon Park. All these games start at 2 pm.
Scott and Brian then focused on the Super Rugby Trans Tasman Competition with the final round being played this weekend. Brian said it’s really a case of who wins, who gains bonus points and who loses by how much that will determine the finalists next week. Scott’s looking forward to some great games again with Hurricanes playing the Queensland Reds, the Brumbies at home against the Highlanders, the Rebels are up against the Crusaders who need to win and take the bonus point, Blues who will want to win with a bonus point as well are playing the Force at Eden Park while the Waratahs are at home against the Chiefs.
