The Gold FM Fire Call Out with Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens on Monday covered the Waihi Fire and Rescue’s five jobs they attended over the last week.

There was a bit of a mixup with the times on the pager Moe was referring to but we did manage to get the right days and times.

The first call was last Wednesday June 9 at 3.30 pm when they attended a motor vehicle crash on Athenree Rd after a woman ran off the road.

Moe said luckily she wasn’t hurt but the car needed to be towed away. He said it was a busy day on Saturday with the week’s other four jobs all on the same day.

The first call was at 2.45 am to Athenree Gorge to a two car head on crash. Moe said one guy was OK while the other one was taken by rescue helicopter to hospital.

The siren went off again 4.14 am when an alarm went off at the International Academy in Landlyst Rd, Golden Valley, on the outskirts of Waihi heading towards Whangamata.

This turned out to be a faulty alarm so Waihi Fire & Rescue headed back to the station. At 4.30 pm on Saturday afternoon they were called out to a medical assist, something they do on a regular basis to help the ambulance crews out.

And the siren went off again at 5.30 pm on Saturday when an alarm went off at the Rob Roy Hotel downtown in Waihi. It turned out to be all OK and they headed back to the station.
