The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday got underway with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas about the junior football results. The Waihi Year 7’s and 8’s had a bye and the Waihi College First XI had an early start in Hamilton with kickoff at 8.30 am last Saturday. They played a good game Rudy said with a final score of 4 - 2 in favour of Fraser High School unfortunately.
Last Sunday the junior open day was held in mixed weather with about 40 there Rudy said, and they’ll be meeting each Sunday at Morgan Park at 9.30am with an open invitation for 4 to 14 year old boys and girls to take part.
Waihi Reserves had a friendly game against Thames after Putaruru Rangers asked for a postponement of their competition game. Thames won that friendly 5 - 1, but as Rudy said it was good for the team to get out and have a game.
Waihi Senior A’s had an away game against Waikato Unicol and came away with the points, winning 2 - 1. That leaves them in second place with just two points between them and Northern United Humblebees.
Brian and Rudy then looked at the UEFA Euro Competition which is down to the last 16, and soon the last 8. Rudy was disappointed his side the Netherlands had been knocked out earlier 2 -0 by Czech Republic. Denmark is on a roll, beating Wales 4 - 0 while Italy beat Austria 2 - 1 to move through to the next round. Rudy and Brian are looking forward to the match early on Wednesday between England and Germany.
